Welcome to a Taste of Culture! My name is Jared Jacobs and I wanted to share a little bit of my journey with food as an experienced cook and foodie. This blog will cover a few different areas of my personal taste in food, and explore aspects of different cultures as it relates to foodways and traditions surrounding food.
My love for food started with the delicious foods my family would make me, specifically my grandmothers. My Grandma Carol was an amazing cook and I have vivid memories of her amazing pancakes, to this day the best that I have ever had. My Grandma Mary on the other hand would always leave me stuffed before church on Sunday with eggs, grits, and fresh country sausage from her hometown of Clinton.
Naturally, I fell in love with breakfast food, and pancakes were the first real recipe I ever learned how to cook myself, but I would quickly expand into other breakfast foods like biscuits and practicing how I liked my soft scramble eggs until they were perfect. Thankfully I come from a big family of amazing cooks and big appetites so not only did I inherit my family's talent for making delicious dishes full of love and flavor, I inherited the curse of instinctually cooking for an army no matter how many people I was actually cooking for.
